Does Not Even Start
No matter what proton version I tried using, the game crashed immediately.
I used Protontricks to install "d3dcompiler_43" and "d3dx9".
After very long play sessions (several hours) the game randomly crashes with an error message.
Other than the occasional crashes, the game works perfectly.
Runs perfectly out of the box, with great performance and everything. The only issue is that it occasionally crashes. Since the game doesn't autosave, this may lead to a lot of lost progress.
Sometimes, seemingly after long cutscenese, the games framerate will slow to a crawl for no apparent reason. Exiting to the main menu and reloading the game fixes this, though.
After switching to Proton Experimental, the game worked almost perfectly.
Never Finishes Installation, Native Version Won't Launch
Upon attempting to run the game, it stays stuck at "Installing: (step 2 of 2)" and never launches. The native version appears to crash immediately.
The game works perfectly with Proton version 6.3-8. I tried it on the version recommended by Steam, the game did not have any music, lagged during gameplay, and crashed after only a few seconds of walking around.
Mods worked too, though I installed all of mine manually. Keep in mind that Linux's file system is case-sensitive. If you install mod files manually, it's possible you may have to change the casing on the letters if those files are meant to replace existing ones.
Mic doesn't work at all, which is a crusial part of this game, since the whole point is to socialize. proton 438100 sound=alsa did not work.
Microphone does not work at all.
Memory leak issues.
Video player does not work.
After an update, the microphone works again. However, the in-game video player still does not work. Works well otherwise.
There seems to be a memory leak issue, so restarting the game from time to time is advisable.
The in-game video player does not work at all.
Anti-Cheat Error Prevents Me from Playing
Upon starting the game, logging in, and loading into my home world, I immediately get the message, "You have been disconnected from VRChat because we determined that you were not running verified VRChat software." I am using an unmodded version of VRChat, and this error message did not appear until after the Easy Anti-Cheat update. From here VRChat only allows me to quit the program, effectively making it impossible to play.
Works Perfectly
Some time ago, VRChat added an anti-cheat feature that broke the game for me for a while. However, it now works with no issue, even with the anti-cheat. Tested in desktop mode.
There was a bit of crackling with the sound at the beginning, but it eventually went away. Controller input did not work, but I was still able to use the Steam Controller API to map keys to my controller.
