use protontricks to install d3dcompiler_43, d3dcompiler_47 and d3d9 in the 24810/pfx directory
units textures are missing
without tinkering, most textures on units will not be loaded. This makes almost all units invisible and basically makes games unplayable. follow the procedure down below to fix the problem:
- install protontricks
- open terminal and run the command down below
protontricks --no-bwrap 24810 --gui
- choose Select the default wineprefix > install a Windows DLL or component, then choose the following packages to install: d3dcompiler_43, d3dcompiler_47 and d3dx9.
If you successfully install the packages above you should be able to see all textures loading properly in games now
game won't start. "no language pack installed" error.
Game won't start. Everytime I tried to launch the game I got "no language pack installed" error instead. I had tried multiple proton versions(proton experimental, proton7.0-3,GE-proton7-26) but none of them worked. Other reports mentioned that old verison of pronton can launch the game, but unfortunately even the old proton(5.0-10) didn't work for me. I installed the steam via pacman
Game won't start. "Please install at least one language pack" error after launch.
I've tried multiple proton versions(proton7.0-3, proton experimental, proton 5.0-1.0, GE-proton7-26, proton4.2-9) but none of them work. Everytime I tried to launch the game I got no language pack error instead. One comment mentioned that installing steam via pacman can solve the issue, but unfortunately this didn't work for me.
the game will run perfectly fine, if you manage to pass the ea app setup. use northstar and northstarproton to resolve this problem
%command% -northstar
The initial ea app installation is troublesome when launching the game for the first time
It seems like the proton version from steam won't let the ea app set up successfully(It won't proceed after clicking "let's go" button and constantly ask you to retry) when launching the game for the first time. Swtiching to NorthstarProton and installing Northstar client will solve this problem. Once you manage to pass the ea app setup the game will launch smoothly. Here are the steps I've taken:
- follow the instructions from Northstar website to install Northstar client and NorthstarProton: https://r2northstar.gitbook.io/r2northstar-wiki/installing-northstar/steamdeck-and-linux/installing-on-steamdeck-and-linux
- follow the instructions above to restart steam and launch the game
after taking the procedures above the ea app should be able to set up sucessfully. However the ea app may still fail to launch and cause nothing to show up, even though steam client still suggests the game is starting. If it happens, try to delete the proton prefix folder for this game: /location to your steamapps/steamapps/compatdata/1237970 as other people suggested; then restart the game again. Now it will reinstall ea app and the game should launch successfully. I haven't tried the northstar multiplayer yet, but the singleplayer mode ran very smooth
