After choosing a language, you are presented with a blank black screen that doesn't change. Need to force-quit the game.
Will not launch with any version of Proton outside of 7.0.
If you run it on Proton 5.0, the game is playable. If you want to multitask, however, you may have trouble.
Have tried using Proton 4.2, Proton 5.0, and Glorious Eggroll 5.9. Proton 4.2 did not work at all, while the others worked well enough for the game to be playable.
I dual-boot between Windows and Linux. Any time I rebooted from one to the other, the save file on the steam cloud was behind by one version. I had to start manually saving to the SD Cloud.
The game's framerate is okay, but it seems to create a significant load on the rest of my system, preventing me from multitasking while the game is running (which kinda defeats the point of an idle game).
Minimizing the game reduces the load somewhat, but not entirely.
Did not work on Proton 4.2 at all, had to use Proton 5.0.
Lag was severe on my first session, had to use minimal settings. Later sessions were worse, got <5 fps around kelp forest.
About 10 minutes into my third play session, my entire computer froze. Most likely, this is due to a hardware problem that has plagued my computer for 2 years.
ProtonGE 6.12
Worlds containing any multiplayer functionality (such as any game world, or the pool table found on some worlds) will cause VRChat to completely deadlock, requiring you to force-kill the program.
Video playback doesn't work (and never has)
Things are even more broken under version 6.13 of ProtonGE. Most preview images for avatars and worlds (esp. the latter) do not load at all, and any attempts to travel to other worlds will immediately fail.
