Works just as good as Windows once you force it to the latest Proton. Otherwise it is a playable but frustrating stuttering mess.
Currently not playable with any combination I have found. Used to work.
This one used to work for me a few years ago. Could not get it to launch with any conbination of GE, experimental, or older protons that I know worked before. Did a fresh reinstall still nothing. Game launches (very slowly) and has the splash screen on the desktop, never loads in the headset, and as soon as the screen turns black like its about to launch, it crashes. I have used ALVR with Quest and also Vive directly attached..
Shooting is responsive and actual game play worked fine.
Cut Scenes have no video. It's just you and a container of popcorn and a black screen. I think this should be fixable with a winetrick, but I haven't experimented yet. It doesn't inhibit game play and most of the fun is in the dialog which you can still hear.
Realtone cable works. Very playable. Nothing bad. To start with I had trouble with "Something went wrong" error. I ran WINEPREFIX=/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/221680/pfx winetricks sound=alsa. Thanks to other poster who mentioned making a symlink of the steamapps folder into the root drive. Rather than doing this, I ran WINEPREFIX=/.steam/steamapps/compatdata/221680/pfx winecfg and mapped the Z drive to my $HOME/.steam directory. It also solves the issue. With this I had it running with no sound at all. This seems to be a problem with missing 32 bit drivers. For this I ran sudo apt-get install libasound2:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386. This enabled sound. Using these settings I could get the realtone cable recognized as a mic but not as the cable. It was playable like this but my electric guitar was awful quiet as no sound came out of the speakers for the guitar. I did set ExclusiveMode=0 and Win32UltraLowLatencyMode=0 in the Rocksmith.ini. But then I needed to also pavucontrol then run it. Go to the configuration tab and set the realtone cable profile to "off". Now the realtone cable was recognized. I did not have to change any other settings including audio under winecfg. I can play songs, games, connect to UPLAY, and also import and play custom songs. It all works flawlessly although it was a real pain figuring it all out.
Given the slow launch process and the need to relaunch if changing settings, it is simply too frustrating.
Dropped frame rates, substantial delays.
PS4 dualshock controller could not be detected using bluetooth or USB. Worked fine in BigPicture, but not within the game.
After opening the menu during gameplay (pressing ESC) then returning to game, frame rate drops to unplayable levels. Before that point performance was acceptable but not as good I would expect. Fully restarting the game corrects the issue.
Initial installation of Origin software was painfully slow and took several tries. Afterward launching the game must first launch Origin software which is a slow process and appears to close and the steam status switches from "running" to "play" for a few seconds allowing an unintentional second launching if you aren't paying attention.
I also played under Glorious Eggroll 5.21 and using the liquorix kernel, but no noticeable improvement.
Worked just fine. Some minor clipping on some of the audio, but honestly it might be the same in Windows.
As others protontricks 611670 xact set launch paramaters: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %command%

I am running with mods. Most mods work fine, except SkyUI VR and SKSE 64. Some report GloriousEggroll proton allowed these to work but no joy. GE-Proton starts to launch then results in a file manager open to the steamapps directory. Official Proton installs don't do this, and GE-Proton doesn't do it on other games. Tried fresh install with no mods. Same result.
Also Nexus Mod Manager does work fine. Use protontricks to install .net 4.6, then use proton-exec to run the installer in the same prefix, or to launch it after it has been installed.
