Select a Proton version to force Windows build to download and install. Native Linux beta available but had audio issues
'linbeta' beta version provides native Linux binary, but this had severe audio issues (crackling, most sounds not playing) on an EndeavourOS install with PipeWire and WirePlumber. Windows version under Proton worked perfectly.
%command% -FastLaunch
Game has a substantial initial download on first run (>100GB) and maintains a high CPU load whilst downloading. Downloading packages can only be done within the game, not in the Steam client. There is no way to restrict the download speed for this process. The 'verify' option in Steam can cause the game packages to become corrupted and this process has to be repeated. Very long loading time from launch to main menu, >5 minutes usually on an NVME drive. On Proton 7+ and Proton Experimental, crashes can occur upon loading a flight or flying into certain areas - seems to happen more often when flying around Europe. On Proton 6.3.8, Bing scenery works well and I have experienced no crashes. DX12 mode did not work at all (game would not start).
