While the vast majority of the game runs fine certain areas drop down to single digit frames. This is especially the case for big open areas. From what I gather the framerate issues are caused by certain visual effects like fire and a certain green-hue effect near the end of the game.
I cannot say if this is Linux/Proton related or a persevering performance issue.
The game has several minor visual and gameplay bugs that may or may not be related to Linux/Proton.
The game weighs ~200MiB in total so there's not much that actually can break
The frequent crashes make the game nigh impossible to enjoy at points during mid-to-late game where troop count tend to be in thousands.
Simulation for cloth physics, specifically on banners in battles, goes crazy.
Game continously crashes during large scale battles, more often than not during sieges, I suspect the mentioned cloth physics artifacts are the main cultprit as they are tied to the physics engine.
Admittedly, I did play on highest battle size settings which may have exacerbated the physics and subsequent crashing issues.
The games launches and plays but due to lacking textures on the planet it looks horrendous to the point where it is no longer enjoyable.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Crackling through out the entire game. Minor, bearable.
The planet is missing textures in the default map-mode.
Seeing as it launches solely with the enforced WINE3D setting I assume that is where the problem lies. Mine default wine-stable installation from AUR community seems to be missing something that allows the correct texture to be loaded.
I do not have the solution but my guess and tip would be looking into winetricks, I assume solution can be found with it.
