Works flawlessly, just install and run.
Ship disappears during intro sequence.
Remember that Proton games won't launch when the steam library is on an NTFS partition. This is unrelated to the game, so if you the game just never launches make sure your library is on an EXT3/4 (linux) formatted drive.
Because of how long it took to troubleshoot, and as there was little to no information online
Proton-7.1-GE-2
Initially unable to start the game, tried many versions of Proton, including stock wine and Windows version of Steam. Same vague error every time:
kernelbase.dll caused an Unknown exception type
This occured right as the game was going to play the first intro video, so I tried installing K-Lite codecs and it didn't help.
Then I found an error related to mfplat.dll
, which shouldn't be an issue in newer versions of Proton, but after installing it from https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-installcab the game runs flawlessly!
It should be enough to just get the dll from that GitHub repo and put it in steamapps/common/Endless Space 2/, as you need to copy it there manually anyway.
After this was solved, game ran as if it was native with no issues.
The fix is simple, and I'd hesitate to say it's a Proton issue. Encountered no other problems in 10 hours of playtime.
The fix for me for being unable to launch was to copy from Eve Online/SharedCache/tq/bin64/launchdarkly_client.pyd
to Eve Online/SharedCache/tq/
and set it as "read-only" (chmod 444
), e.g.:
cd ".steam/steamapps/common/Eve Online"
cp ./SharedCache/tq/bin64/launchdarkly_client.pyd ./SharedCache/tq/
chmod 444 ./SharedCache/tq/launchdarkly_client.pyd
This prevents the launcher from removing it every time.

By using a 32bit wine prefix, with an old version of GloriousEggroll, I was able to update and run this game flawlessly. Check the report by vulthoom for instructions. I did not experience any issues with fonts as they reported, my experience was perfect.
Unable to load text translations, so it displays just the keys. Tried installing vcrun2017 to the prefix, didn't help.
Installs and runs flawlessly, as long as it's not installed on an NTFS formatted drive (not specific to this title).
Because a fast-paced multiplayer shooter is such a sensitive experience, the current state will make it unplayable for many.
Stuttering on input and effects (explosions, whenever you attack/make portal), which is very annoying. The game runs in constant 144fps the rest of the time.
Was not able to finish the tutorial due to crashes before adding the text file with appid as mentioned in other reports here. Still crashes/freezes from time to time during games, and it always seems to be in response to input/player action i.e. immediately when a button is pressed.
Even though this title is well on its way to running smoothly under Proton, the nature of the genre magnifies any issues that might be there. I had a lot of fun playing casually on linux, but the constant threat of stuttering and crashes makes this a game I can only play in short sittings while wishing I could immerse myself a little deeper as it's a hell of a fun game.
