The game did ask to configure the gamepad on the first launch, that worked without any problem. Did two characters story modes with no problems, as well as practice mode.
I disabled the right trackpad click as left click (I prefer to use R2 as a left click, which was already the case too), I kept it working as a mouse otherwise as it's this game main way of interaction.
I also :
- unbinded the B button (it defaulted to E key, which has no purpose besides dezooming)
- Set the Y button to P key (it switches to "Win Rate" and "Damage" in battle, while some people might not use them much, I do find it convenient to be able to simply press a button to toggle between both of them)
- Set the X button to Enter key (it can be used in some screens to validate without having to aim the mouse to a tiny confirmation button, and in battle once you set all your moves, either manually or with "Win Rate"/"Damage", pressing enter confirms them and starts the attack).
Text is tiny, I don't mind it too much but some people would have trouble with it.
The game once transitioned from a Luxcavation battle into a black screen, forcing me to close it down forcefully and not letting the rewards arrive, it happened only once, and maybe it's not proton only(?)
One important thing is about the language, the game starts the first time (at least on my side) in Korean, if it does for you as well: it asks for your consent on two EULAs (which you already accepted when installing the game on steam), and then it'll ask to install an update
Only then will you be able to begin the game by cliking on the screen, it starts in a visual novel scene, the language cannot be set in that mode, you'll have to continue until the first battle tutorial, once you are there, you can click on the setting button (a cog) and set the language from there, once that is done, you should quit the game and restart it, this time it should be in the language you have chosen.
LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=0 %command%
Only had I believe 3 failed match making, and 1 disconnect in-game, since a game only last for 3 minutes top, and I have more than 10 hours in, that sounds more like random issues unrelated to proton itself.
It's important to use LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 (and, I assume to have said locale installed) as otherwise, the titlescreen will not load, keeping only the background and the music, unable to progress.
Multiplayer worked well, the game is currently in japanese only but a guide exists and explains how the menus work and such.
I use PROTON_USE_WINED3D=0 for most stuff myself due to my device, but it may be not needed for most people.
