Proton-6.20-GE-1
In standard Proton, the video cut scenes would just show a black picture, but subtitles still showed along with the skip-scene prompts. Video would work after forcing compatibility with Proton GE 20.
Tried all the tricks previously mentioned to no avail.
Followed the tips from "thebloodyorphan" with copying xlive.dll and the FALLOUT.INI mods. Also set the launch options to "PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%" and still could not get past the initial menu screen.
MANGOHUD_CONFIG="fps_limit=40" MESA_SHADER_CACHE_DISABLE=true gamemoderun mangohud %command%
Using DX11, animation is somewhat choppy, but still playable.
With the default settings using DX12, it crashed right after the first cut-scene right when we see the first two Helldivers. That was fixed by changing it to DX11. Also, using Mangohud's FPS limiter option helps to delay a crash, but it seems to inevitably crash. The lower limit of 40 FPS seemed to delay a crash for about an hour or so.
It's definitely most stable using the --use-d3d11
, but it definitely looks worse, and I noticed a bit of stuttering/choppy animation, but it was still playable and didn't crash. The default DX12 graphics are a lot smoother, and better looking, but it always eventually caused the game to crash, and I would have to force the game to close from Steam.
It's a short point and click game that mostly runs flawlessly on Proton.
The only issue encountered was that sometimes it just wouldn't start up at all. I would have to kill the process a few times, and then it would start. I wasn't able to look into what was happening during those times.
It's Sonic. Works great. Only issue is that I'm really bad at these kinds of games, but still enjoy them.
Besides the sound issue, this has worked really well.
Occasionally the sound would start skipping for a few minutes. It seems to resolve itself after a little while, though, but then comes back again.
