Log-in for Multiplayer No Longer Available
protontricks 962130 -q dotnet40
Able to install and initialize the game using Proton Experimental and protontricks (protontricks 962130 -q dotnet40), and can access the main menu. Unfortunately, in what appears to be a very recent development, the Xbox Live log-in screen (required for multiplayer) is completely borked and can no longer be interacted with. This is even reported by the creator of the oft-cited YouTube video that walks Linux users through the log-in process (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjpNhiv9_FY) in his response to Matt Lattimer in the comments.
In order to ensure that the game works at all, after installation:
- Rename "Grounded/Maine/Binaries/Win64/SpeechSynthWrapper.dll" to "Grounded/Maine/Binaries/Win64/SpeechSynthWrapper.dll.old" or delete it in order to avoid the game freezing on the startup loading screen.
In order to ensure that multiplayer works, after performing the above step, do the following:
Install and then run ProtonUp-Qt (I installed the ProtonUp-Qt installer using my OS software store) and do the following:
a) "Add Version"
b) "Compatibility Tool" select "GE-Proton"
c) "Version" select "6.21-GE-2"
d) "Install" and let the install complete
e) Click ‘Show game list”
f) Use the drop-down menu next to Grounded to choose ‘Proton-6.21-GE-2"
g) Click Apply
h) Close the ProtonUp-Qt installer and restart Steam if you had Steam open during this step
In Steam, under Grounded's ‘Properties", ensure that ‘Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" is checkmarked in the ‘Compatibility" section and that it shows ‘Proton-6.21-GE-2".
Launch Grounded and then log into your XBox Account. Everything should be visible. No invisible log-in screens.
Close the game.
In Steam, under Grounded"s ‘Properties", ensure that ‘Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" is checkmarked and that it shows “Proton Experimental”.
Play the game with optional multiplayer.
