works fine with no tinkering, some small caveats
the game usually crashes when you tab out and/or doesn't let go of your cursor
performance is a little bit lower than windows, but otherwise still acceptable
the game was unacceptably laggy when screensharing on discord
runs and plays better than windows. obviously improved with a few mods like the silentpatch and dreamcast restoration, but same for windows.
silentpatch required for proper analogue controls. included in the crazy taxi megapack, which also fixes the rest of the games problems, found here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=964260789 (make sure to add WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command% to the game's launch options after installing for the patcher to work)
works perfectly out of the box with latest proton. was able to use my dualshock 3 and steam controller with no hassle.
game lags a bit when using obs or discord screenshare/go live
just as good as on windows, which isn't great. bettersadx fixes the whole game, but is tedious to install on linux.

run the installer with something like this:

run the mod manager with something like this

works fine. obviously better with bettersadx, so install that.
