Ran surprisingly well on my weak intel pc, and surprisingly slow on this one. Can't really say for sure if it is faster or slower than on windows because of that. Works though.
The gold standard of subsims. Runs fine out of the box.
During playthrough of the Kilo demo, froze and crashed after 5-10 min. Not experienced in quick play mission.
See notes.
Sun glare causes little UFO green orb to orbit head
From all maxed settings on Win10 at 4k to near slideshow frame rates on medium settings at 4k. Due to large amount of ram on this particular machine tried disabling swap and reducing swapiness to 0- both resulted in significant performance improvements. Still running a reduced resolution (1920x1080) but some settings to high, looks ok and is playable at ~70 fps. Nvidia proprietary drivers.
Used advice posted already here, as Null said below- ProtonTricks --> IL-2 Sturmovik --> Select the default wine prefix --> Install a Windows DLL or component --> install the "d3dcompiler_47" component
Due to large amount of ram in this particular machine, tried reducing swappiness and disabling swap. Resulted in performance improvements across multiple games including this one. Acceptable performance with swappiness set to 0.
"Failed to find Steam". How will we stop the enemy from attacking the village near grid 11?
Intend to tinker later.
No issues experienced, worked just fine
Did not try Mult Plyr. Game runs like on Windows but with minor framerate loss, all graphics and sim options enabled.
Basic test of menu, interaction with starter level and characters. No issues found yet. Seems to be running very well.
compare Windows 10- Smooth, maxed graphics at 4k at ~110 frames per second ..... Arch, proprietary Nvidia drivers- 55 fps at 2560x1440 on minimal settings out of the box- Significant gains found by changing swapiness setting to 0 (This pc has 96gb of ram), so transfers to/from swap must have been happening for no reason. Now running 3200x1800 on a mix of settings (about medium) at ~95 fps.
