Even though the crashes are frequent, they arent so much so to cause you extreme pain, and since this game is so addicting, you just go back
gamemoderun %command%
Some stuff above/under banners are missing, Some soldiers are just black in menu's
Since DXVK isnt available and Vulkan is awful in CK3, I am forced to use openGL. Significant slowdowns where it usually shouldn't occur, Proton has better performance
You WILL crash, and you WILL like it. Usually occurs when clicking on characters, doesn't occur on Proton
GOOD GAME, SHOULD HAVE A BETTER LINUX NATIVE THO
gamemoderun %command%
Whilst playing on OpenGL you can not see any textures. the map is pure black. It crashes when you come close to any nation.
OpenGL on Crusader Kings is DEAD. Recent update leads to a black map that causes crashes. the fix is to go to Vulkan.
Vulkan, however, is EXTREMELY slow. this is because of the option **Animated Characters **
This godforsaken option, when turned on, causes massive lag for some reason in exchange for some measely idle movement, turning this off allows you to view characters without tearing your hair out from the lag.
Clicking on Characters feels like russian roulette, where any one of them may cause you a crash just by attempting to interract or learn about them.
Performance was solved by lowering my system from 4k to 2k, most players will be on 1080p and can even push higher settings.
Would occasionally teleport to a farther distance
Stuttering and low FPS
I am waiting for linux support.
You can not play online with friends, and the BattlEye which it claims to support for linux does not work. Run this game in a VM
LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6 /usr/lib/libgcc_s.so.1 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgpg-error.so.0 $LD_PRELOAD" mangohud %command% -windowed -w 1920 -h 1080
Sharp lag spikes out of nowhere
You CAN NOT play, you require NATIVE Which I could not get to work, and even then there were reports that BattlEye still did NOT work.
Might actually be easier to make the multiplayer work on a pirated copy, considering that might actually lack BattlEye, really dissapointed that I had to use Proton instead of the Native because it did not work, and I had several crashes on start-up when using newer Proton versions
Quite flawless, if anti cheat is ever included, I hope they pick to include wine compatibility
It is the typical REMATCH experience, nothing different from PC, really enjoyable
It has Easy Anti-Cheat, but it supports Linux so we have no issues there
1 to 1 representation of the game that it wouldve been on windows, not sure how to navigate the wine folders though
I think nearly every computer (even in windows) will see issues here, I dont consider it major.
It is basically the same game, you may have to switch to the parameters listed, but it is very stable. I suggest playing windowed.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Conventional Fullscreen (not windowed fullscreen) may cause crashing when alt tabbing
Saw issues with Vulkan, seems like using launch options listed makes it run better
mangohud %command% -d3d11
Occasional crashes when windowed and not focused
As some others may have difficulty getting this to work, ill go into some FaQ on some issues I faced.
- My screen is black and there is nothing
You'll have to add -d3d11 or -dx11 as a launch option.
- My game crashes at start-up / when trying to sign-up
I had this problem when trying to play on Proton 8.0-5. Switching to Proton Hotfix fixed this issue for me.
- System Integrity Violations stops me from playing
This seems to be an issue with the launch option of either gamemoderun or PROTON_USE_EAC_LINUX=1. Try removing either.
- What is PROTON_USE_EAC_LINUX=1?
Searching this up myself, seems to link to a reddit article where a user says that it may be used to allow Proton users to use Linux EAC. This means that PROTON_USE_EAC_LINUX=1 is not actually present, as it should just use the linux EAC by default. Remove it if you are using it, and don't use it if others are using it.
- Conclusion
I am glad that this game got a Linux Enabled version of EAC and after some minor tweaks I am confident that this game runs as well as the Windows Native version does. A guide on making the game work in an official portion of their site may have been a great additional aswell, as these issues are not so obvious to many people, and the default launch options may require -dx11 or -d3d11 for some people to even get in the game to play.
-d3d11
-d3d11 might not change much. perfect experience, tho
-d3d11

My game crashes at start-up / when trying to sign-up Proton-Hotfix no longer fixes this, although Proton-Experimental and most likely Proton-8.04 would do a similar job at working
