Without any changes the game would not be responsive to clicks from my mouse.
Changing my GPU settings from Nvidia "OnDemand" to Nvidia "Performance Mode" made it work like a charm.
Followed https://www.linuxbabe.com/desktop-linux/switch-intel-nvidia-graphics-card-ubuntu to switch GPU settings

Had lots of problems with default Ubuntu 24.04 installation. Switched from X11 to Wayland and now no problems anymore.
