Got to the menu, can't run demos
I used "PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command% --use-gl=osmesa
" to get into the menu, but fails on "Collecting System Info"
Tried multiple Proton versions
It felt like the sensitivity was all over the place. Very frustrating.
Even on the lowest graphical settings, I got major stuttering. Higher graphical settings made the game unbearable to play.
I tried Proton GE, Proton experimental, and Proton 7. Proton 7 worked best but still very rough.
Native build runs considerably worse than it should given my specs
Starts on wrong monitor, isn't actually full screen until I switch to "fullscreen windowed" and then back to fullscreen.
Major stuttering and inconsistent lag spikes.
Performance issues made the online experience very poor. Not sure if that's relevant, but it feels wrong selecting "good" or "excellent."
VAC doesn't work with proton (and the rumors of Windows 7 gamers getting VAC banned has me scared to try it anyway), so all I'm left with is the native build. Which runs like absolute garbage for me for some reason. CS:GO worked, but that has been memory-holed. Thanks, Valve.
PS, don't buy a steamdeck.
Totally broke in Proton 6.3-7. Use Proton 4.11-13.
Physics are tied to framerate 🤮
Here are the steps I had to take to get the game running:
- Convert all wma and wmv files (using the script mentioned in other reports)
- Change the Proton version to 4.11-13
- Cap the framerate to 120 fps (I have a 240 Hz monitor). I used libstrangle and used the following launch options: "strangle 120 %command%"
Once I did all that it ran fine.
When running native, first launch went fine. However, second launch had the game opening on a secondary monitor and ignoring all input. Instead of fighting it, I switched to Proton. The issues went away but I lost my progress (thanks worthless cloud save). Sticking with Proton as there are no downsides an I couldn't get native to work.
Works fine in proton
Had problems joining multiplayer games in native, worked correctly in proton
My default for non-Steam Play supported titles is Proton GE. I experienced pretty irritating stuttering. Switching to Proton 7.0-6 seems to have completely eliminated the problem.
No issues running with proton whatsoever. Probably runs with most if not all proton versions. Recommended.
Good performance and controller support
I played with a 360, PS5, and Switch controller. All worked. Runs fine. Leaderboards work. I didn't notice any issues.
BattlEye. End of discussion.
Keyboard and mouse buttons get stuck.
The BattlEye situation makes this a non-starter for most, input issues ruin it for everyone else.
