To fix right-click losing focus you can run the game in a virtual desktop. Run protontricks 296490 winecfg
, go to the "Graphics" tab, and turn on the option that says "Emulate a virtual desktop". You should set the resolution to be whatever your monitors resolution is. This fixed the issue for me :)
Works great, especially once you fix the right-click focus issue
Runs fine, but don't use glorious eggroll
Run fine with Proton Experimental, or at least fine enough to get past the tutorial. With Proton-GE the game crashes right after the tutorial.
This game runs perfectly, but only with Proton 3.16-9. With the earlier version, 3.16-4, there's audio issues and you can hear every sound on the map playing at the same time. If you go up a version, to 4.2-5, there's issues with random freezing. Every few minutes the game will freeze for a second or so, which means guaranteed death if you're fighting someone. This makes the game extremely frustrating to play --- if you're getting similar issues I suggest trying Proton 3.16-9.
Have to run with a single core, which is really too little to run big multiplayer matches
If running without taskset -c 0 %command%
or with proton 5.0 there are frequent crashes.
Running with a single core is needed to avoid crashing on loading screens. However, it makes large multiplayer matches lag out and can lead to you getting kicked automatically for lag.
However, to workaround this you can reenable cores during play by running taskset -p -a 0xffff $(pgrep SteelDivision2)
from another terminal. Disable them again with taskset -p -ca 0 $(pgrep SteelDivision2)
to make loading work again once you're done. Alternately you can restart the game.
Cutscenes will often crash the game, even with only a single core active. Mash <ESC>
and pray to get through these.
Really needs taskset -ca 0 %command%
in the launch options. I tested on a few different proton versions and it appears to work the best on proton 5.0, so I would recommend forcing that version. In newer versions of proton taskset appears to do nothing.
Game shows a black screen upon startup. I tried disabling esync and using wine's d3d11 but neither seemed to have an effect. Disabling d3d11 causing the game to error out as it requires direct x 11. Game is completely unplayable.
The game runs well with some minor performance issues, the game seems like it's running a little slow but I haven't seen it run on windows so I'm not sure if it's steam play or the game. The sound has a few minor issues as well, sometimes the sound will get choppy but this only lasts for a few seconds. Other than that the sound works perfectly.
