I played with keyboard and mouse using the official steam docking station, I did not try using the gamepad but before launching it did warn that controllers were not supported so for those playing in handheld mode you will need to map the controls yourself.
The frames would pause every now and then but it was too infrequent to care and was never a huge bother
Happy to report that game works fine on the steam deck without any sort of tinkering, I was able to play with friends that use windows without any trouble. Thought I would note that I installed the game directly onto the steam deck's built in storage rather than the SD card. Unsure of how good the steam microphone is but I used a headset for mic communication and it worked perfectly fine.
The game actually works perfectly in terms of running it on hardware, however, I wouldn't recommend playing the game with the deck touchscreen and/or trackpad as the later levels get really chaotic, if you connect a wireless mouse or use a dock with mouse though the game works as intended.
A very fun multiplayer game and perfect for the deck given a few tinkering in docked mod.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp.dll=n,b", %command% (with mods)
playing in docked with keyboard + mouse makes it so you auto sprint and mouse left click can't be used. This can be fixed by pressing buttons on the actual deck when a round begins.
Able to connect to anyone online
You are able to use mods by directly installing them to the lethal company steam folder. I was able to get morecompany to work by using x64 version of BepInEx (https://github.com/BepInEx/BepInEx/releases/tag/v5.4.22), extracting the files into the lethal folder, adding WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp.dll=n,b", %command% as a the launch option then opening the game, dropping the morecompany mod (https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/notnotnotswipez/MoreCompany/) into the newly created plugin folder and finally opening the game back up.
Played a full multiplayer match for 2 hours without issue
I used mouse + keyboard to play but the game will work fine if in handheld if you configure your deck to work with it
