There were some very slight performance problems in the final palace of the game (The final palace in the Royal true ending). Even so, it was limited to the final area within said palace. This was using the graphics settings set by default, which is why I am mentioning it.
I played the entirety of my 80+ hour playthrough of Persona 5 Royal on my Steam Deck. I went for 100% achievement completion during this playthrough, meaning that I achieved the True Royal Ending. The final palace of this ending (different from the final palace in base Persona 5) was the only place that didn't run well during my playthrough, experiencing continuous frame drops and running at about 20 frames consistently. Not an unplayable area, but certainly a departure from the perfect performance the game had otherwise.

After reading other reports about this game, I genuinely refused to try it with base proton on my Steam Deck. After performing the described fixes, the game ran flawlessly. The issue where audio doesn't properly play during cutscenes has been entire absent so far (about 2 hours into playing, several fully animated and in-engine cutscenes have played)
