game crashes after a few minutes of playing
game freezes after a few minutes of playing
After the last patch (6.58) where they removed MAC support I had to run the following command to be able to log in. Otherwise the game would say that my account does not have a valid license. The following command I had to run to be able to hide wine from the game and be able to log in again and start the game. I also used Proton-GE for this.
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/39210/pfx winetricks hidewineexports=enable
Of course change the path to a where your game/wine prefix is located
Game works fine
For a few days after the 6.58 patch the launcher broke and required a workaround, but it is fixed now.

You can apply widescreen fix and add fix online multiplayer with openspy.
Widescreen fix: https://github.com/ThirteenAG/WidescreenFixesPack/releases/tag/flatout2
openspy fix: https://github.com/DCxDemo/Flatout2.SteamOpenSpyFix/tree/1.0
Note that the openspy fix requires the widescreen fix to be installed. The launch options are needed to make wine load the widescreen fix dll correctly
Game works, playing with friends online with friends has issues
The game runs as expected. The biggest (Linux) issue is that you don't have windows game bar. This is used to invite people to a convoy (Forza name of a party). If you somehow manage to end up in the same session as your friend, you can go to the player list and invite them to the convoy. We also noticed that most of the time when we start the game we have a button to join the other persons (who started the game first) convoy.
Note for this to work I assume you have to add eachother first as a friend. This you can do by going to you Xbox account in the browser and add eachother. Sadly you can't invite people from the browser.
If you play with people on Windows you can install the Xbox app on your phone which allows you to invite your friends to your convoy. This didn't work reliably for me.
When you play online with random people it also happens the loading times are extremly long. This is not a Linux specific issue......
If you are annoyed with other people in game and want to mute them , you can mute them using the playerlist, but this is annoying in a race.
Alternativly, you can go to the xbox website, got to your xbox profile. Then go settings->security and privacy->manage security and privacy settings. There there is a settings where you can disable communication (including voice chat) with people that are not your friends. (names might be different, my xbox profile is not in Enlgish)
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
I used proton GE, otherwise the game gave a black screen after initial loading/login screen
DirectX version of the game works perfectly. I haven't tested controller, because I play KB/mouse.
the vulkan version moved to the left all the time. DirectX version worked fine
Performance was great with Vsync turned off.
quit button makes the game freeze. Performance is great and decreased +- the same amount as windows players.
use the launch option: -dx9 to fix the issue if you have a black screen when the game starts
you can also use "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" launch option but that came with a performance penalty for me. From >120 fps to 75-120fps. This is a backup solution if the -dx9 option comes to an end and the normal (no launch option) way isn't fixed
