Doesn't work
I was able to install it, but I couldn't launch it from steam, neither by forcing it to use Proton Experimental compatibility.
bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe/Mafia3DefinitiveEdition.exe}"' -- %command%
Using Alt+Tab switches out of the game, but after that I could not go back into it. The only solution was to close it and open it up again.
Crashed once during gameplay
With the provided command launch options the game runs fine, but initial loading of a saved game takes a bit of time. Using Alt+Tab causes the game to be unresponsive forcing me to close it and open it again. Also the game crashed on me once while playing it, but I can't say for sure how often those crashes happen.
Just works
No problems. Even has the same awkward mouse acceleration that it has on Windows that you can't get rid of.
Pretty much flawless
Few small crackles, but could be due to my hardware as the laptop I am using has had audio crackling before on other occasions.
Works well
It takes a bit of time to load which shows a program not responding prompt, but if you wait a few seconds longer the game starts and runs without any issues.
Pretty much the only thing I noticed out of the ordinary were a few audio crackles which disappeared after a while.
Launching the game directly after installation without any tinkering or compatibilty modes is successful. However after we get into the game it gets stuck on an infinite loading screen. Clicking randomly with the mouse on the screen does trigger sound effects as if I am clicking invisible buttins, so maybe the menu is somehow rendered underneath the loading screen regardless of the loading screen not disappearing. I managed to fix this by going to the game's properties in steam and forcing it to use Proton Experimental from the Compatibility menu.
