In most cases, I would install d3dcompiler_43
, d3dx11
, (OR d3dx9_43
) via protontricks, then wrap the launch of the game via protontricks-launch
. However in most cases this was rather inconsistent with both graphics and audio issues from proton.
I ended up getting the game more or less working via creating a prefix entirely with stock wine, checking to make sure that lib32-libpulse
and lib32-pipewire
(artix packages) have been installed. Then making sure that the proper d3d libs are installed on the prefix. Then after making sure the audio settings are set properly via winecfg (or winetricks) it should more or less run perfectly fine.
Make sure you have the proper lib32 pulse/pipewire audio libs installed
Fullscreen would not properly fit the whole screen. Force a given virtual desktop size in winecfg to midigate
This report here is mainly for people struggling to get the itchio release of this game working without the tweaks given by other reports. For context I do not own the steam copy of this game, rather I got my copy from the Bundle for Ukraine on itchio.
Completely tweakless this game will not run. I assume it is an nvidia problem on my end, but being that graphics work mostly ootb on stock wine, this may be a problem with my system (of which I havent extensively tested). Unresponsive audio has been an issue too, so I had to make sure supporting libraries were properly installed.
While I havent gotten this release to work consistently with proton, I was able to get it working relatively well on Proton 6.3
and ProtonGE 9-21
with some tweaking (mainly installing d3dcompiler_43 and d3dx9_43 via protontricks) and launching it through protontricks-launch.
I managed to get the game running with stock wine of all things 9weirdly enough) so if you are having issues here are some steps you can take:
- create a new wine prefix (preferably near to where you have the game files extracted)
- run winetricks and install any d3d libraries if graphics dont work first launch
- if fullscreen doesnt work right, force a virtual desktop size in the winecfg 'Graphics' secition
- if audio seems to not work BUT you get audio feedback from the winecfg wizard. Make sure you have the proper lib32 libs installed for pulse (and pipewire if you run it)

Works perfectly again
The issue with the game not taking keyboard input is fixed, and now tate mode works correctly too

Runs out of the box
alt-tab sometimes leads to a blackscreen that requires you closing the game.
Didn't try a controller, just my keyboard

Recently became unplayable on keyboard, suspect Hyprland issue
Game will not tile. Tate mode likes to move outside the workspace sometimes.
Game ignores keyboard input. Clicking floating window can only drag the window.
The game used to work fine, but recently the game has become unplayable on keyboard. I have the same problems with the developer's other game Void Stranger. I've tried a bunch of fixes and havent found a fix yet, but my current assumption is that the game engine is having some sort of an issue with Hyprland or Kitty windows as both these games are the only ones I've found with tiling/forced float issues. Game is still playable with controller. I still want to come back and 1cc this eventually, so I'll try to update if I find a fix or it fixes itself later.

Game uses way more power than needed by default. Far as I can tell you can scale both CPU and GPU down to minimums (CPU 3 watt, GPU 200 MHz) and it still runs fine, full speed even on Steam Deck OLED at 90 Hz.
These changes dropped the power draw down from 8-9 watts to 4.8 for me.
Recommend reducing CPU and GPU limits on Steam Deck to save power, game doesn't need the default power scaling, and you can double your battery life.
Using the itch version of the game it would crash on launch. To fix, add the following dlls to the game's prefix using protontricks: d3dcompiler_43, d3dcompiler_47, d3dx11_43, d3dx9_43, d3dx9, d3dx10,d3dx10_43
It's necessary to use protontricks d3dcompiler_43 when playing game from itch.io (not necessary for Steam version, as that automatically installs DirectX)

Works good!
Runs as expected

Works great on Steam Deck
Roda como nativo
Excellent deck game
PROTON_USE_WINED3D = 1% command%
Usando Vulkan/DXVK o jogo rodou muito lento em meu pc. Via opengl ficou tudo lisinho.
worked great out of the box. i kept it windowed (default) but it displayed borderless fullscreen.

Itch version (from Ukraine bundle) downloaded, launched via Steam. No version of Proton seemed to work, some crash without a descriptive error, best error from GE:

Everything works out-of-the-box; tested all modes and multiplayer
Sometimes the game screen flashes white for a frame when another effect is played. I don't remember if this was a feature or not when I played it on Windows, but the fact I'm not too sure is a good indicator this graphical issue(?) is nothing to worry about
Everything worked out of the box. I haven't tried to play the game in multiplayer yet though.
Works flawlessly out of the box
Runs too slow. 4.11 works fine
Runs much slower than it should. Using 4.11 works just fine.
Had to be played on 4.11-13 to be playable. 5.0-7 slowdown .
Would slow down on proton 5.0-7. Slow down would reduce game speed Fixed by going on 4.11-13
Slowdown made it easier to beat :)
Runs perfect out of the box.

Runs out of the box with full controller support. Changing screen orientation may knock the game out of fullscreen and place window slightly outside monitor range; simply press Alt+Enter a couple of times to fix it.

Everything works fine out of the box. I did not test with a controller (it seems others had problems).

Works without problems with controller support (tested with xboxOne and SNES controller) after disabling Esync, which prevents the game to crash a few minutes in.

The game detected some of my Steam Controller's inputs twice. This is fixed by turning off a duplicated gamepad in the game's settings. Afterwards, it works without issues.

Initially reported as Borked as the game would not launch...this was due to a popup window on initial launch that I could not see from BPM. This is a SteamOS issue, after launching once from the desktop, subsequent launches are fine. Rating Platinum.

Everything works without requiring any configuration whatsoever.

With no launch options it was crashing after a minute or two. Runs perfectly with PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%

Game will not launch

Crashes shortly after entering player name

Game crashes either during or just after entering the player name

Works perfectly!
