Out of the box experience again!
Yet another game that runs super smooth and super OOTB! I remember the times when I was a windows users long time ago, and I had to use this dgvoodoo thing to get this game running. Guess what, here on linux, I just installed the game and hit play, and everything just worked. Better experience on linux each single day!!! Enjoy

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8.dll=n,b" %command%
To prevent blurry textures on modern hardware, I use a patched d3d8.dll
that lies to the game about the amount of memory available from http://hawkdawg.com/rrt/rrt3/rrt3_main.php
Using dgVoodoo2 as recommended didn't work under Proton Experimental for me, but it's only needed to fix the blurry textures AFAIK.

Installed as non steam game, copied fresh install of my original game disc. Plays great still working on reflections!
Blurry textures when zoomed out, no reflections

screen mouse position didn't match game mouse position in fullscreen
Fixed by disabling "accelerated mouse"
chamnging proton version and diabling accelerated mouse was enough to get this going better than windows

Barely working on modern Windows, but even barelier working on Linux
Often flickering at any resolution on the lower two thirds of the screen
This game seems to go rogue on CPU when playing in on Linux, whereas it neatly works on Windows with only minor trouble due to its old age
Works perfect, no issues at all

Works almost perfectly out of the box. The small issues I noticed don't impact the main game.
A campaign/scenario completion cutscene lowers the volume of the game. Saving and reloading the saved game fixes this.
When in winowed mode, cutscenes play in smaller window.
Just works. Better than windows.
Trying to Host or Join Multiplayer crashed the game

Works without issues

- multiplayer not yet tested (in windows version multiplayer was buggy in case of synchronisation between clients)

Could sadly not get the unofficial patch 1.06 to install, but the game works perfectly out of the box anyway.

Works better than on Win 10.

Works flawless, better than in Win10 really. No problems installing the unofficial patch and using community maps and trains.

Flawless.. it will not work in Windows 10 anymore

flawless

Loads and runs fine at all resolutions. Only issue was audio a bit choppy but that was resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in audio settings

played thru the tutorial and have seen no problems
