Works by default. On ultra settings too. Also installed the fluffy mods by adding the mod manager as an non-steam game and running it under Proton experimental.

tried GE-Proton9-23 and proton hotfix
it used to work but i believe a steam deck update has changed that
idk

Online worked well for the coop style mission

It's a bit weird that the fps in cutscenes drop by 15-20 on average, even though the game runs at a steady 60. From what I've seen, there's a lot going on in those moments compared to the regular gameplay. So that could be a reason.
The game starts with the high settings preset. Initially, I've played a couple of missions without changing anything, but after I came back here and read that the deck can handle the ultra preset I proceeded with changing every setting. Oh, boy does this game runs very well and looks good too! Nevertheless, I'll also list the settings that I used:
- Screen resolution: 1280x800
- Refresh rate: 60Hz
- Display mode: Fullscreen
- Frame rate: Variable
- V-Sync: On
- Rendering method: Normal
- Resolution scaling: 100%
- Texture quality: Ultra
- Texture filtering quality: Ultra
- Mesh quality: Ultra
- Anti-aliasing: TAA
- Motion blur: Off
- Effects quality: High
- Shadow quality: High
- Shadow cache: On
- Ambient occlusion type: HBAO+ (Variable)
- Bloom: Off
- Lens flare: On
- Volumetric light quality: High
- Screen space reflections: Variable
- Subsurface scattering: Variable
- Chromatic aberration: Off
- Color range: sRGB

Game can comfortably maintain 40FPS at 40Hz with a mix of high & medium settings at 8W TDP 1100-1200 GPU Clock, should give around 3-4 hours of gameplay at the very least
Audio in cutscenes can go out of sync but it's very rare and happened to me once in like 50 cutscenes, still is a known & common issue in this game
DoF effects appear weirdly pixelated, might be a result of lower resolution
Can play docked at 1080p, though steady 60FPS might require lower resolutions and some settings tweaks.
1600x900 or set Resolution Scale to 0.8 or do both and enable FSR through the Quick Access Menu (make sure to select Borderless Window). Adjust Volumetric Lighting and Shadow Quality to Medium Set Ambient Occlusion to SSAO Motion Blur personal preference though I recommend off if your settings give you over 40FPS
I wanted the eye candy so I kept settings most settings at high at 1080p, and it holds an average 50FPS for the most part, even goes up to 75-80 in certain sections but can also fall to 40-45 in hectic fights. If all that variance sounds like a nightmare to you, you can turn down some settings as mentioned above to maintain a steady capped 60FPS. Cutscenes with all the extra bells and whistles will often drop frames but it didn't bother me.

You can easily get 60fps with most settings set to max.

Only seemed to dip below 60 in cutscenes, never during gameplay
runs smoothly with solid 60 fps in the default settings:

Had issues with a couple of crashes before switching to GE Proton8-6
Finished the main story from start to finish without any major unsolvable issues, recommened that you switch the proton version to the current GE-Proton (8-6 as of writing) as I came across a freeze that required me to restart the game.
Almost constant 60 fps, insignificant drops during bigger fights, great experience on the deck

The game runs perfectly fine with steam deck's default configuration at 60fps. Most settings are preconfigured to high by default. No issues
Locked the fps to 40 via the steam power menu
really smooth framerate with default settings, but had to switch to proton experimental to improve stability instead of 7.0-4 (default)
I can't progress past the mansion (3rd level I think), I usually crash quite early during the run. I'm at my 4th crash now.
I'd like to play the game, it has a green badge on steam, but with the default settings, it seems I will always crash in the 3rd level on steam deck.
Locked fps to 40fps
40 fps lock
Perfectly fine
