If you are using an external monitor it is fine but it is hard to read on the deck itself.
Sometimes the textures took a little longer to load but it loads the textures but it wasn't super noticeable.

55-60 FPS on low settings with amd fideltiy sharpening on, medium 47-50fps fsr on, high 27-30 fps fsr on.
gamemoderun mangohud %command%
I would run it the low settings preset, then turn on amd fidelity sharepning option on the bottom in the visuals menu, and then up some two settings up by one (low to medium) and you'll get a solid 55-60fps still. Game runs great out of the box using ProtonGE 9-11, no launch options technically required. It works great on the steam deck. I haven't tested normal proton experimental / proton 9 but they most likely work out of the box as well. Great game for linux pc users or linux steam deck users

Downloaded Proton-ge-proton-8-15
unable to be played on Game Mode on the steam deck
other versions of Proton will have no sounds and just kills sounds even on the desktop.
when using Heroic Launcher the controlls if your on desktop mode will kinda be detected but not, the controlls will be set to desktop mode.
when using Wine compatability the setting will not save and will keep asking to retry to save the settings.
if using any Proton/wine the Movies folder of the game will not function. either it will not exist or shows those TV bars. with out the movies files your game will be soft-locked and cannot progess.
you can only play this game on dekstop mode when using Proton, but when using wine you can play it BUT you will be bombarded with setting save errors, also your save fill will not be saved between proton and wine. learned that the hard way paniced when i lost nearly 3 hours of progress. TLDR: proton for Desktop mode Steam deak via Heroic Launcher.

Reduced render settings
Upon wake from sleep, occasionally I get issues with the sample rate. Sometimes very minor crackling. Sometimes a lot, and audio samples play too fast.
Occasionally the entire system crashes to a black screen with no warning. Sometimes it happens on the conclusion of an event, like opening a Typhon loot cache. Other times there's no warning at all. Rebooting is the only way to recover.
I accidentally deleted compat data for the game now it's borked for me
borderlands 3 is still broken. I bought bl3 on steam. I downloaded a program called cache killer. Which let's me delete shader cache and compatdata for my files I accidentally deleted bl3 compatdata. Now the gun wont start even after I reinstalled it, deleted the proton files, I verified game files multiple times, i tried proton and proton ge compatibility layers, I tried adding the bl3 executable file as a non steam game. But no matter which one of these I try or in what order I try it the gun fails to run. It will start up and saying downloading from steam cloud then it fails and asks my if I want to retry or cancel. And even when it asks if I wanna play without cloud save it doesnt start. I tried playing offline and no luck. I turned off cloud save and no luck. The cause of this was deleting compatdata to try and free up more space and my ssd. I tried deleting all bl3 file after uninstalled the game and all proton files for the game then I reinstalled and verified the files still no luck
disabled directx 12, running dx11
intermittent audio loss of some sounds
texture popin
crashes intermittently with dx12
Limited fps to 30, and cpu TDP to 13
I think some areas have broken lighting (black boxes being on stuff randomly) with the settings i have, but this could also be from being installed on the sd card.
Fsr does not enable even in windowed mode.
Sometimes black screens when entering a new area.
Game takes 10 minutes to load into the main menu sometimes, but once you're in the game it runs surprisingly well for running off of an sd card. Getting an inconsistant but playable 30 fps at my settings to limit battery use. Running with DX12, very low, 720p @ 100% resolution scale.
Added Gyro on Left Trigger (Aim) pull, as well as a gyro toggle with high sens Joystick mouse for quick sweeps
Refresh rate 40 FPS, 10W Power, 1200 clock cycles. Gets t
Very small text thats hard to see with certain levels of sharpening.
Pop in
Stutter with large environments loading in
Multiplayer worked well for borderlands.
I would go with 2 instead. While 3 is fun, the game has quite bad visual issues with text and seeing enemies with its art style on such a small screen.
Back grip buttons for running and melee.
Doesn't run very well on default settings. Changing to DirectX 11 and capping to 30 FPS makes the experience much smoother.
Crashes quite frequently when using DirectX 12.
I play online co-op with my wife on the same network. It is mostly stable, though sometimes I get disconnected from the host. I haven't tried hosting the game, because our Linux gaming PC has more power, and it makes more sense for it to host the game.
It is imperative to change the DirectX version to 11. Otherwise the game crashes often. After the first launch the game defautls to DirectX 12. Exit the game. Launch the game and set the DirectX version to 11. Restart the game again for the change to apply. I also recommend capping FPS to 30 in the game settings. I couldn't achieve 60 FPS even with the Very Low profile. You can get about 45 FPS. And capped 30 FPS feels a lot smoother. If you cap the game to 30 FPS, you can play comfortably on Medium settings. I also turn on FSR in the Steam Deck menu as I play this game with an external monitor. Setting FSR sharpness to 4 it looks very nice on a 1080p monitor, and the text remains readable.
Text was pretty hard to read
Changing to fullscreen, windowed or borderless does nothing
Even when locked to 30fps I would get drops to under 20fps and when locked to 40fps any time I swapped weapons or looked/walked around it dropped under 40fps
Low/very low settings with a 30fps and 40fps lock but still got bad performance even with dx12
Looking/walking around or changing weapons caused the game to stutter and drop frames
Text is hard to read
Very strange but i also got less frame drops when plugged into a charger and the second I was on battery the game started performance bad but still was pretty bad on charger
Overall I would avoid playing this even with very low and 30fps lock with 75% scale it's not stable
Game starts up and launches. System crashes when I try to boot into game. No proton version has fixed this issue
The game worked just fine, maybe three days ago. I do not recall any changes since then.
I'm amazed on how well it runs. I get a pretty consitant 60 FPS with no noticable slow downs. Overall and awesome experience.
Graphiques : bas, flitre x16 45 FPS
Back grip pour changer d'armes
Les options d'accessibilité font baisser les performances donc pas de sous-titres
Accélération du son (voix qui parlent trop vite)
I would stick to 30 fps cap, 7W Power Limit - 800P Low Settings
Text is a bit small but its managable
The game stutters and even at 30fps its still happens here and there
for a visual representation https://youtu.be/_-LUwfq_lM8
playable, but do not expect to play it on super high settings or anything if you want high fps
-nostartupmovies -nosplash
changed resolution to 1152x720 in GameUserSettings.ini
do not expect super readable text. but you can improve subtitle readability in accessibility settings
I absolutely do recommend using proton GE to prevent massive stuttering. and just play without ambient occlusion and screen space refelctions combined with low-medium settings if you want to aim for 50-ish fps. you can go for higher settings if you aim for 40 fps
I also play on 1128x720 to ever so slightly improve the fps without sacrificing too much resolution with FSR enabled in quick settings (resolution edited in the GameUserSettings.ini in: /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/397540/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Borderlands 3/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/)
GPU clock locked to 1300mhz and cpu TDP set to 14 watts if I remember correctly
Lots of the text is small and hard to read
Game is hard to run, I found it best to lock to 40fps and use low-medium settings.
Game frequently crashes, switch to DX 11 and GE Proton to fix it.
Worth the time to set it up, it runs great on the deck once fixed.
Strictly on the Steam Deck side, it's definitely enjoyable. It runs great from the many hours I've played so far.
Locked the framerate to 30 FPS.
Some of the menu text can be a little too small, but it's readable to an extent. Just a note: This isn't necessarily a Steam Deck or PC issue, as I personally have this issue on both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 on a 4K display.
The game will default to DirectX 12 after the first launch and the game will run fine, but I ran into some random crashes while it was using DirectX 12. Switching to DirectX 11 has fully resolved the issues for me.
I set the base visual settings to medium, but I upped anti-aliasing to temporal (TAA), anisotropic filtering to 16x, and motion blur (camera and per-object) enabled. I've been able to maintain a fairly solid 30 FPS with drops mainly occurring when a lot of particle effects are on screen. This may exacerbate when you reach the end game and start tinkering with Mayhem levels and True Vault Hunter mode, but I have not reached that point yet.
I tried experimenting with different refresh rates and framerate caps through the Steam Deck's performance options, but they were either causing frametimes to go all over the place or severely degrade battery performance. I personally feel like setting the refresh rate to 60 Hz and locking the framerate to 30 FPS provides both a solid performance experience and battery life for the Steam Deck.
Also, as of 2022-07-29, the total size of the game and DLCs is 142.41 GB. If you have a 64 GB Steam Deck, you will need a microSD card to install the game to. It's a large game.

Launch Heroic launcher from Steam gaming mode, then select Borderlands 3 within
You'll have to change the DirectX pathing once you are able to launch the game. 1st launch is DX11, then it will say next time it will launch in DX12. To change from DX12 to DX11. NOTE: sub "Public" for your username unless left default.
navigate to this file pathing:
/Home/games/Heroic/Prefixes/Borderlands3/pfx/drive_c/users/Public/steamuser/documents/My Games/Borderlands 3/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/GameUserSettings.ini
open GameUserSettings.ini and change PrefferedGraphicsAPI=DX12 to DX11 This is towards the bottom of the file. You will need a program like Text Editor from the discovery store. I have heard Kate or Kwrite are suitable as well.
capped FPS, low graphics settings, set texture to low
Change proton to: Proton - Proton-GE-Proton7-10
Menu text can be hard to read but not impossible
For the love of God turn the Texture Streaming down to Low on the Steam deck to avoid horrible stutter. Works great after
Everything works as expected but you NEED to lower the Texture Filtering to Low in the settings or else you'll experience tremendous stutter. I'd reccomend medium settings at 30fps in game lock and 60fps system lock. This seemed to reduce input lag for me.
