Disable the Deck's FPS cap or the game will run at sub-60 FPS with major stuttering. Even with cap disabled performance isn't perfect, but it's good enough.
Launch Option: %command%
As another noted: Disable Steam overlay. I had to run with Steam Proton Experimental. with launch parameter: %command%
Other proton versions, flashed the screen then didn't load.
Classic bad movie, and now can play the game :) happy that it plays with very little tweaking
Proton Experimental
I needed to disable overlay (as another suggested), ran using Proton Experimental, and added %command% to launch option.

Game works perfect since Proton 6, but steam Overlay NEEDS to be disabled in the game properties, to avoid crashing at the start
- just disable Steam Overlay
- for non-vulkan gpu and older proton, opengl needs to be forced by PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Running the game goes to unresponsive black window. I couldn't make the alt-enter trick work.

Its nearly unplayable because of the reported bad visuals. BUT you can work around that bug if you Tap ALT + ENTER to change from Fullscreen-Mode in Windowed-Mode and back. It will give you a little Time-Window to play, until it crashes again randomly. This Trick always worked for me... I think it depends on "How strong you want to play this game" to repeat that trick and... maybe... beat that game. It'll only make it more challenging ;D

Game starts, shows title screen okay. Once level starts, music plays, but visuals are bad. Magenta background with grey rectangles here and there. Game "plays", music and sound effects work, just can't see what you are doing.

Spawns a black window in the middle of the screen, then nothing.

The game does start. But, it's unplayable.

Runs just fine but no music.
