30 FPS frame limit in steam quick settings
Texture pop-ins are to be expected. This is not a perfect visual experience but a rather tolerable one (for me atleast)
I had a very enjoyable experience playing between my Windows PC and steam deck and did most of my playthrough on the deck.
I used xess2.0 mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy7rebirth/mods/15) and set the in-game minimum resolution scale to 66%. Using windowed mode 1280x720 and switching display sync technology to VRR (had a better experience switching off from v-sync dk how). The game is completely playable (though you have to get used to the textute pop-ins) at 30fps 95% of the time with drops especially in cosmo canyon town and the starting nibelheim town (you don't spend a lot of time there and the open world is almost always at 30fps)

Capped to 50hz/50 fps. Set all graphic settings to Low, then set effects to High, and set Character Shadow count to 1.
Especially on 480p resolution
Requires manual download of save game from Remake for bonus rewards

Maybe due to the game running at low settings, the game itself is missing some texture in certain parts of the game. A side quest in Chapter 12 have you go into a hallway and some of the tiles on the ground are transparent until getting close. Other than that everything else looks and feels great.
Game runs well at 30fps, low settings, 33% - 100% res. I did lots of my exploration and side questing on the Steam Deck over my PC. Keep expectations low. Game can look very blurry sometimes when res go down to 33%. 66% res worked great for me in some areas but will dip below 25-ish FPS. This game is very demanding on a Steam Deck but you'll have no issues doing all the content that the game has to offer.

Since the latest update, game is quite stable now, with zero crashes on both my Windows desktop, and on the Steam Deck. As usual, keep expectations low when it comes to graphics, since even the PS5 had trouble running this.

Used mods
Downloaded FFVIIHook - INI and dev console unlocker & Steam Deck Performance Setup. Download Hook first and then use the Performance Setup mods. Here are the links:

Usually running around 30fps after using this. Sometimes drops to low 20s. I find my battery levels to be acceptable as well when I play it. Im making a new review after my initial negative one as this is a largely superior option compared to running it normally through Steam. I would recommend anyone do this if they wanted to only play this on their Steam Deck and not stream it using something like Moonlight.

Texture pop-in.
Game runs mostly at a stable 30fps. There are small drops to mid 20's, but they are barely noticable while playing. Texture pop-in is very noticable though, but that's a small price to pay to be able to play this game on the go.

deckyframegen
menu lisible mais trop peu contraste meme avec option lecture basse resolution
mode fznetrage bug paq a bonne resolution

30 FPS Cap
Some random dips on FPS counter with my configurations.
I'm quite impressed with how well this game performs on the Steam Deck OLED. By setting all graphics to low and textures to medium, I'm achieving a consistent 30 FPS in nearly every situation.
While FF7: Rebirth could still use some performance improvements, it's definitely already playable.

The crashing issue means you have to interrupt the gameplay to manually save after doing literally anything.

Game crashes every 5 minutes or so.
Decky framegen used, albeit not to generate frames but to enable FSR upscaling (the game struggles to run at an acceptable resolution otherwise.) It honestly looks surprisingly okay on Steam Deck for a PS5 game with the FSR mod.
For the record, I did try it initially without the FSR mod. Crashes still happened.

12W TDP
720p, borderless full screen, vsync on, 30fps limit. Max res 100%, min res 66%, TAAU, 4 characters, 5 character shadow distance. All else low EXCEPT High character model detail, medium texture resolution. QAM: 90hz, allow tearing, 12W limit. This balances visual quality with 30fps gameplay. I also tried 1080p (switch to windowed, select 1080, switch back to borderless), 66% max and min, it's a bit crisper but averages 26-28. I also tried the FSR3+FG, it's worse visually and higher latency, but provides 50+ fps. Kind of apples vs oranges. Check YouTube for guides on that.

Nintendo-style controls for B and A buttons.
Game defaults to low settings on the Deck, so don't expect much in terms of graphics. Do note that the game reportedly had performance issues even on the PS5 in heavier segments like Junon.
Currently crashes every 15 minutes, to the point that I'm streaming the game from my PC until patches address this.

I change my dynamic minimum resolution from 50% to 100% and max fps to 30fps. Most of the time I get 30fps consistent but on towns and some other places it dips as low as 18fps but is fine.

In the Game Setting. Switch to Change Resolution and Switch to Full Screen to get rid of Artifacting
When I noticed the Artifacting I knew that had to be resolution related. So I went into the Game Setting and...
Set the Resolution 1280 by 720 and then Switched to Fullscreen mode. In the ingame settings.
Unfurtunately you have to change Resulotion in Windowed it won't let you under Full Screen and Full screen still uses whatever Resolution it was manually set to because its actually windowed Full screen, but that does not explain why Full Screen mode locks the Resolution Option.
Also I had to Switch to do both these to fully get rid of the Artifacting. Changing the Resolution then switching back did nothing I had to switch it to Fullscreen to. This Indicates something is wrong with the Game's Autoscaling Functionality
Most games on Deck run in Windowed mode by Default, which usually is better. in thi\s case it seems not so
Again like most other new AAA Games. Set Graphics to low for best performance.

the verified mark is a joke, yes the game do run fine and we can tell that square did some optimization for the deck but the game crashes very often while using the default settings. 'LowLevelFatalError, GameThread timed out waiting for RenderingThread (Line 1246)"

/home/deck/fgmod/fgmod %COMMAND%
Only happened sometimes on sleep/wake cycles.
Native TAA and TAAU look smeared.
Dips under 30 fps in towns and cities.
Run "curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/FakeMichau/fgmod/main/prepare.sh | bash --" in terminal, set "/home/deck/fgmod/fgmod %COMMAND%" as the launch option, All settings to low, Dynamic Resolution Scaling (Minimum) to 50%, and Anti-Aliasing Method to DLSS. It's not perfect, but it's about as good as it is going to look in its current state.

Runs at erradic 15 to 30 FPS on Default Medium Setting which is playable but, Changing the Setting to Low gets 50 to 60 FPS
After more I testing I figured out that in order to for Rebirth to be able to find Remake Save Data you need to the add FFVII Remakes Save Data to Rebirth's Compatdata/fake C Drive's my Games folder
Remake's Save Data can be found in /SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/1462040/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/
Rebirth's can be Found in /SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2909400/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/
Copy Remake's Save Data into Rebirth's Compatdata's to get the Bonuses for having Remake and Integrade Save Data.

Stuttering / crackling
Horrendous pop in, dynamic res makes the game horrendously blurry. Some textures are not fully rendering.
Stuttering in cut scenes. Massive frame drops. Spent most of the time in the 25fps range
Crashes every 15 min

Absolute minimum settings, Dynamic Resolution Scaling (Minimum) set to 33%. Doesn't look pretty but it stays near enough to 30 fps to get a pass.

Its kinda Blurry on Initial Boot
Run at about 15 to 20 to 30 FPS on Deck With only the Textures Set to Medium even though Lighting is actually what consumes more VRAM and RAM.
Have not played much of it but it seems to run without any Tinkering but Seems to also not be able to find my Remake Save Data, but I don't know if thats because I have not beaten remake or because the Save data is Stored in the Compatdata
Not sure if Sqaure Play Tested beyond the games minimum and Recommended Specs because the minimum and recommended Specs are what comes up if someone just Google Searches "PS5 Equivalent GPU"
