I tried the default, Experimental, and several versions of Proton and GE.
gamemoderun %command%
By default the game boots to the title screen, but when I press a button it crashes. I tried using Experimental as well as several versions of Proton and GE. When I use those it gives me a "failed to intitialize Direct X 9C" error.

Works fine on default settings besides slightly desynced subtitles in the opening movie.
Didn't have to change any settings. Runs great with no crashes!

MANGOHUD_CONFIG=gl_vsync=0,vsync=0no_display mangohud %command%
Install MangoHud and use these launch options to force vsync off which is on by default and adds a frame of input lag. Removing this extra frame makes this port on par with the xbox 360 release in terms of input lag.

With Valve's Proton and older GE Proton versions, the game seems to completely FREEZE/CRASH when it tries to play the intro video. Valve lists the game as unsupported because of this - yet the game is listed as PLATINUM on ProtonDB! Really?
With the newest GE-Proton9-7, the game loaded, the intro video played, and the game seemed to run fine.
Text is a bit large and can overlap other text in the menus/settings, and the timing of the subtitles doesn't match the dialog when a video plays (and the timing difference only increases the longer a video plays).

Crashes when demo video is about to start if you wait for long enough in the title screen

RS.ini added line "Vsync=0" no clue if this did anything or not though. Probably skip this.
Runs at a locked 60 on Steam Deck via the default proton Valve selected, no issues. On windows via nvidia GPU I'm getting 59fps fullscreen and 60 only in windowed mode. So I think this is a W for Linux Gaming.

One of the best SHMUPs ever is playable on Linux, I use a PSclassic USB controller and am able to map the buttons in settings with no issues. Plays great(locked at 60fps). Can play in fullscreen or a window, but you cant change resolution options, so fullscreen is suggest.
