Use Luxtorpeda and select GZDoom. Plays perfectly with gamepad controls, after a few tweaks to game options like vertical aim sensitivity.
Cloud save support seems to not be working. Steam claims it is "up to date," but the cloud save section is missing entirely from the game's Steam properties.

Unknown(< 15 minutes with Proton)Everything works fine. However, I recommend playing this game natively through the GZDoom source port instead. Since it is a Doom engine game, it will work fine. No need to play any Doom engine games through Proton when GZDoom has been native on Linux for years.

Runs, but no audio. Make sure you don't press any keys when title screen is loading. It caused mine to crash repeatedly by doing that.
