protontricks 1267540 winecfg > OS to Win7
After fixing with protontricks controller works but starts to lag slightly in an hour, not sure if the game or my system causing it > restarting the game fixes this.
Game runs very well with proton, xbox controller was not working and like someone else allready said run protontricks 1267540 winecfg and set OS to Win7 and also disable xbox steam input for xbox controllers and add launch option STEAM_COMPAT_CONFIG="" %command%
Cars act a little twitchy with default settings with controller, Steering setting: Left and Right stick Sensitivy -10 Deadzone 50 Saturation 100 Rescale Yes
Controls did not work on initial launch, used the same method described by others, launch Protontricks, select the game, select default wine prefix, select run winecfg, change the compatibility mode from Windows 10 to Windows 7. Then add a launch parameter of STEAM_COMPAT_CONFIG="" %command%
Used the aforementioned Protontricks fix and launch parameter and controls work fine
On medium settings the game runs mostly at 60fps with a few dips to around 45fps when a lot of particle effects are going on

Execute o protontricks, selecione o jogo WRC 9 na lista. Selecione default wine prefix. Na proxima tela selecione Rum wine cfg. Vai abrir uma janela. Selecione a aba Aplication Na lista, selecione configuraçao padrao e mude o sistema operacional abaixo para windows 7.
Feche essa e todas as janelas do protontricks. Mude a versao do proton ne insira a linha de comando de incializaçao na steam.
ERROS Se voce usa steam beta e o protontricks nao abrir. Mude para steam estavel, faça as mudanças e volte para beta. Execute o jogo pelo menos uma vez em modo desktop. Nao vai reconhecer os controles, feche o game. Depois disso deve funcionar normalmente no game mode
Sempre uso TDP 10w a menos que o jogo exiga mais
Ajustes necessarios para rodar o game e reconhecer controles. Sem os ajustes, meu jogo nem rodava.
It runs with my hardware without any issues but I made some tweaks the first one was from directX 11 to directx 12 and second one was the resolution from 1024 x 576 to 1280 X 800 "16:10 because of the display". Now it moves within a range of 70 to 80 frames with the graphic setting low in every section. I could have changed it to very high but then the frames crash to 50-60 and the graphic does'nt seems very different or as they say better.
Must change windows version to win7 in winecfg

Seems like control configuration is all good I didn't need to do anything.
Due to the Amazon Games launcher I had to use an older Proton then it was fine

The steps in the post from mominjo work perfectly for getting the Steam Deck's controller to register.
Steam Deck Controller will not be detected unless you use protontricks
You can still play it with a keyboard without tinkering

TO GET CONTROLLER SUPPORT: One user suggested using protontricks to change the emulated OS to windows 7. To do this, download Protontricks from discover hub (in desktop mode). Launch Protontricks, find WRC 9 in the list. Select default wine prefix, then click Run Wine cfg. A new window opens, go to the "Application" tab, select "Default" - this is the global setting. Change the OS to Windows 7. Close it down and make sure you add the launch command before launching the game. I ran the game with Proton 7.0.6 but it would probably work with other versions as well. This method worked for me!
They were not detected, but with the fix I mentioned with protontricks, it works fine now.
Game runs great, needs a bit of tinkering to get the controller recognized.
It is not possible to start the game if you do not switch the controller profile.
In Steams Game Properties, i had to deactivate Steam-Input for my DualShock4 Controller, to get the Controller working.

By default keyboard works only. Set the launch options and run protontricks as listed above to make the controller detected (tested on an Xbox Series X controller)
Seems only daily challenges are available.
