Playing through steam without the unofficial port is mostly playable, but leads to some missing and non-looping music.
Sound distortion during cutscenes
In the last few the levels (last dungeon and the area right before that) the game startet to stutter. Every 3 seconds the game had a single frame that took 150ms, which resulted in a predictable and constant hitching.
Game Prone to Crash Before Key Battle
Game crashed as the 2nd boss battle was starting.
Did not try out reloading from a save due to time constraints. The save points in this game are pre-defined and the ones immediately preceding the first and second boss battles are very far apart, so I was lucky that I hit a save point just before the game crashed; otherwise, I think fifteen minutes of game progress would've gone to waste.
Game seems to run fine.
Steam Overlay doesn't show up properly while playing this, but this is unrelated to the performance of the game itself.
Seems to be working fine after Steam fixed their CEG DRM issue

Frequent crashes means I can't recommend playing this in Linux.
Game starts fine for me, but would freeze or crash every few minutes.

Followed instructions and used shell script from here: https://icculus.org/finger/flibitijibibo?date=2019-07-31&time=13-55-03

Download the Linux version and the password-protected zip file from that link, get the md5sum of ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Cthulhu\ Saves\ The\ World/Content/Movies/CSTW_intro2.wmv to use as the password for the protected zip file, extract and merge the 'Content' directory in the protected zip file to ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Cthulhu\ Saves\ The\ World/, copy the shell script called 'CSTW' from the other zip file you downloaded to ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Cthulhu\ Saves\ The\ World/, and set the launch options to ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Cthulhu\ Saves\ the\ World/CSTW &command%. It should work fine after that.

Follow this guide: https://icculus.org/finger/flibitijibibo?date=2019-07-31&time=13-55-03
Custom shell script
After following the instructions as mentioned in the appended guide, force Steam to execute the ./CSTW.sh shell script from your CSTW installed Steam directory folder.
For instance, Set Launch Options: ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Cthulhu\ Saves\ the\ World/CSTW.sh &command%
Then, the game will run perfectly.
Doesn't start.
Still broken in current Proton.

NOPE

Crash on launch.

Won't start ((

At least now the title screen shows, but the game still crashes afterwards.
