Atlas isn't without it's usual bugs, however it's mostly the same experience in windows in terms of performance
5.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Crackling/Popping on the odd occasion
Before jumping ship to linux, i played this game pretty much everyday for 10+hrs a day. The performance issues are better now but pretty much the same here as you get in windows, its just the poor programming by the devs. Tip: Fine tune your video settings to balance fps and pretty pixels.
Works fine on Proton 4.2-9, tried the newer 4.11-2 and loads a black screen and nothing happens.
Works out the box, fun game
I do run my games with the Proton-5.1-GE-2 (GE Editions), that is the only difference here and i doubt it would break the game from Value proton.
Followed guide here: https://github.com/Linux74656/SpaceEngineersLinuxPatches Originally followed install instructions from others users on this website.
Occasionally to rarely there will be a pop and crackle in-game, i followed the settings here : https://github.com/Linux74656/SpaceEngineersLinuxPatches under audio popping/crackling issues to help mitigate the issue, its more rare now than without adjusting it, Note: I do use a soundcard.
Escaping from full screen or alt-tabbing is no go in full screen mode & full screen windowed mode, however going into windowed mode with slightly less resolution than monitor native resolution and pressing alt-tab allows escape.
Occasionally hickups will occur, sometimes it will be audio related, but 95% of the time it runs good.
Only issues i had was installing winetricks/protontricks, due to distro libraries outdated issues (ubuntu thing apparently). I had to manually complile winetricks/protontricks to get the updated version to proceed. I had used both winetricks/protontricks this is why i have listed then both.
Using Proton-4.21-GE-2
This game is currently an early access title, so it will have the usual performance issues that come with a EA title.
Out of the box works good, however my hardware isn't bleeding edge and adjusting some settings in the game menu fixed some issues Turning off Snowfall(Applicable for winter update), Smoke, Grass, Mirrors, Fog, Reflections, Heat Haze, seems to have really fixed the fps performance issues.
