Game runs reasonably - 64 bit, DX10. However occasional black screen crashes, with some audio remaining after 5-30 minutes. Appears to be graphics crash - "FAULT_PTE ACCESS_TYPE_READ" Also with Proton 6.16-GE-1, identical effect (occasional crashes)
Note that using PROTON_USE_D3D11 superficially worked, but memory leaked to crash in a few seconds whenever the in game steam menu was opened.
Graphics crashes at random, at least on first level. 5-30 minutes.

Big problems in Halo CE with enhanced graphics: appears to be a real bug in the game
By design Halo MCC has no local split screen on PC: The developers lied about it and backtracked. Tested primarily LAN cross platform local coop on Halo CE and Reach. It /should/ work but ucrtbase.dll is not being installed properly from protontricks vcrun2019, leaving the wine version. This leads to desyncs in CE, and disconnects in Reach
A blast from the past, played with steam controllers and linux. Easier than getting Halo2 to work on PC. Solo play is fine with no tweaks needed. EAC never worked - no achievements :(. For coop/multiplayer you must have the same(/compatible) versions of ucrtbase.dll, else it desyncs.
Note that as using Nvidia drivers 470.161.03 for Kepler GPUs am using DXVK 1.10 copied from Proton 7.0-6 into the GE install. (Proton\ 7.0/dist/lib/wine/dxvk/ files/lib(64)/wine/* )
For cross platform play at time of writing with a windows 10 PC, ucrtbase.dll should have the following md5 hash:
MD5 (steamapps/compatdata/976730/pfx/drive_c/windows/syswow64/ucrtbase.dll) = cc3bf1319f2ef9c9718735bdbd2441a9
MD5 (steamapps/compatdata/976730/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/ucrtbase.dll) = 126821f73fd9ffce6e091cf9480e1b60
Proton/winetricks was having issues installing it with "protontricks vcrun2019", and it failed silently with GE. GE tries to use vcrun2019 by default.
Don't buy: EA would walk a mile barefoot over broken glass to hurt linux.
mangohud %command%
(Note: BACKUP SAVES and use a new prefix...) Every launch it runs the "EA Play" app which self updates (With "Customise setup" and "Let's Go") (and spawns 4 hidden windows that screw with the steam overlay). This fails (with EA error report) on 7.0-6, and it's error report fails too. GE-Proton7-48: Hangs at end of installer loading bar for 3 minutes, then installs directx, then crashes. Subsequent launches, don't. GE-Proton8-4: Installs EA Play update, and error reports out. As above.
Mass effect 1 on Proton works fine, it's entirely the towering pile of useless that is EA Play preventing me from playing. Plus the EA overlay introduces large stuttering and lag...but also seems to make controllers work. Something is borking the Steam in game overlay, which would otherwise work. Oh, and Achievements have been broken for ME2 and ME3 for at least the past 2 years, since it's shutty cloud implementation installs a default achievement file with everything unlocked. Seriously, check the EA forums.
What a mess. It's the eptitome of bad experience to get running, and gets routinely broken.
Steam Overlay (Shift-tab) does not appear to work in the main games windows. So no rebinding.(dll looks to be loaded, but the game makes a lot of spurious windows, so perhaps it's hooking uselessly into EA play, the cause of most of the problems here)
Stutter heaven from the EA Play Overlay (Shift-F1). Disable it (seem to disable controllers too)
Achievements are borked - This is due to EA play's broken cloud implementation, and is a cross platform bug AFAIK
DO NOT GIVE EA YOUR MONEY. Note-Installed with a fresh prefix and proton 8.0-2. Launched a bunch of times (say 5?) until installer for EA play completed. Then switched to my GE-Proton7-48, which has DXVK downgraded for my older NVIDIA drivers. This loads for about 2 minutes with no indications, then suddenly launches the launcher.
It's possible that the wrong option in the game graphics settings then requires the PROTON_USE_WINED3D to fix. Has varied sporadically for me over past proton versions
