Some post effects are showing glimmering eyelids/mouths, etc, not game breaking, but still tinkering to try and fix
Crashed constantly on proton 8. Upped to proton 9 and stability was fine but I had to add the check in the launch options to trick it into seeing the specific driver options
Disabling ray tracing helped, but slowly dialed it back up. Start with no strand hair and no ray tracing, get into the stable part of the game where you can save. Then tinker while you turn things back up. The first cutscene (after spending an hour designing my character) is where it first crashed
Make sure you're on proton 9.0 or higher, make sure your drivers are up to date, and take the launch options I provided. Do not waste effort trying to follow the Steam comment sections that say you need to install the latest NVidia driver, there's nothing that I've come across that requires it, and I believe the error is only Windows related. Use the launch args to trick it into thinking it's higher than it is.
The crashes started for me during the first cutscene. Start the game on modest settings with ray tracing and hair strands off first, get to the first savable area, then just tinker from there. I slowly dialed ray tracing back up to a place where it feels stable. I'm 3 hours in now with no further crashes. There are some minor graphical glimmers that I can't figure out yet, but they are few, and I'm pretty sure there's a setting that can be dialed back.
Anticheat prevents install on Linux. Their error: Wine, Proton, and Steam Deck are not supported by this application!
Don't bother, they don't want your money apparently.
Most proton versions plain don't work. The 9.0 Beta launches the EA app, but you can't launch the game from there.
Unfortunately not playable at this time
Upgraded AMD driver, amdgpu was fairly out of date in my last report but after upgrading it runs fine
Launcher opens on the wrong monitor, but the games launch on the correct monitor, minor annoyance only at start
Be patient setting it up, it's frustrating and requires more tinkering than normal, but you can get it working.
After reading the issues other were having here, I confirmed that Debian-based distros are to blame, specifically the framerate when starting. Having FPS > 60 causes the crash at text.
First I used @TheTremble 's idea (GREAT work by the way - thank you!). It did not work at first, I had to change it from 15 seconds to 120. The game will still freeze temporarily! Wait! Be patient, after a few seconds it continued on, still at the forced 10fps. It froze again at the next screen, but continued. Once I got to the main menu I followed the other advice and forced my graphics FPS to 60 max. I exited out, removed @TheTremble's command, and it works fine without it now!
The freezing listed above, working after running the fixes
Game launches, gets to menus, and plays, but:
- Videos (including startup videos and background videos) do not work and show a test pattern
- Login does not work, can only create a local user
Videos and logins do not function
