Had a blackscreen issue until I used this suggestion from prior reports: protontricks 718850 d3dcompiler_47
I often have issues connecting to their server(s) but I don't think I am alone in this. I restart the game a few times and I eventually get into the multiplayer lobby.
d3dcompiler_47.dll fixes the blackscreen issue, if you run into it. Was the only thing I need protontricks for. I didn't rename the launcher as prior suggestions did.
Multiplayer servers are down currently but I experienced no issues other than the black screen bug which I solved with d3dcompiler_47.dll
protontricks 374320 d3dcompiler_47.dll
I initially had a black screen UI bug preventing me from reaching the intial menu. Only by using protontricks to install d3dcompiler_47.dll was I able to get this game working. Ran well in my brief test.

Nov 3rd update to the pc version hasn't changed anything yet for proton users.
I had my default browser, Opera, open when I launched the game and I was able to connect to my Google account. The part after that took a bit but succeeded.
Runs great with Proton Default, though you can't see the intro or other videos. There is a Linux version but it has artifacts.
Under Proton videos don't play out of the box but there are no artifacts. Under Native Linux videos play but there are minor artifacts along the lower fourth of the screen.
Everything but video playback is working under Proton. Native experiences artifacts at certain resolutions for me but has video playback.
The Intro and Cutscenes won't play under Proton, instead showing a multicolored bar test pattern.
Changing resolutions fixed the graphical artifacts I saw in the Native Linux version. Because the Native version plays the cutscenes, I would say it has the better overall experience, though both Native and Proton performed well otherwise.
GE-Proton7-5 supports video playback, otherwise standard Proton is comparable. Both ran great.
I like seeing cutscenes but standard Proton doesn't play them out of the box. GE does, so I'm updating my report for anyone else interested. https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom
Ran just fine with default compatibility options. Noticed there was support for gamepads in addition to keyboard and mouse.
Works great without tinkering on Proton 7.0-1.
On start up the game will open a white window before launching into fullscreen mode and arriving at the main menu. No impact on game play, and all modes work fine, though the last resolution or window mode you used doesn't appear to be saved. I'm not sure what the behavior is on Windows but it may be the same?
