My friend invites me to play the campaign through steam
Like some have posted, initially I needed to add gamemoderun %command% --skip-launcher to the game launch options. I set this up months ago and it's worked great since then. Try it without first tho, maybe they have fixed.

Works very smoothly
I've played just over 8 hours with absolutely no hiccups. To my surprise, my nintendo switch pro controller (via USB) worked out of the box, too! No tinkering, drivers, nothing -- works like a dream
