Out of the box experience... The game crash in DX10 mode, but that is a Proton/DXVK issue. In DX9 mode the game works perfectly. It is necessary to add this to the game launch options for a proper experience: PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% -dx9
I played the first TWO levels in a row without any single crash.
Is necessary to add PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
In previous PROTON versions, the game language was set in English, even if the System language and the Steam client language is another.
With PROTON 4.2-1 the system language is properly detected and game language is set according to it. In my case, I can play it in Spanish out of the box.
The DEMO works out of the box, but with distorted sound. The solution that worked for me was go to... /compatdata/673030/pfx and edit the user.cfg file. At the end of the [Software\Wine\DllOverrides] section, I added "xaudio2_7"="native,builtin" and now the sound works fine...
For to quit the game, I have to die or use alt+F4.
First: I suggest to add WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %command% in the game's launch options for to avoid the potential and very well known sound issue...
I played only in single player mode the two first chapters, during the FREE WEEKEND... I died A LOT.
Fullscreen works fine and Vsync too... Everything worked OUT OF THE BOX. I had solid 60 FPS most of the time with the graphics preset on HIGH, but I had frame drops when A LOT of enemies were attacking me and my team... It seems this game very cpu demanding.
I had only ONE crash in 6 hours of game play, but I can't tell if it was a Proton issue or a game issue, because I had the same kind of crash, several times, with Killing Floor 2 on a Windows 7 machine.
The use on a SSD is highly recommended because this game has all the content in a huge .pak file
It works with this workaround https://steamcommunity.com/app/415590/discussions/0/1643167006305565118
I played this game on a Windows 7 machine for more than 496 hours... And about 2 hours on Linux via Proton 3.16-5. The performance is almost the same using the same GPU, a GTX 970: Solid 60 FPS with graphics settings on high.
While I was able to play the game out of the box without any crashes, some may need to enable PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1.
The Windows version via Proton has much better performance than the bad quality Linux version.
Out of the Box experience.... The Windows version of the game running via forced PROTON 3.16-6 works much better than the crappy native version.
I played about three hours indeed.
It worked out of the box, but I had choppy audio. I discovered that cpufreq governor was in Powersave mode. I changed it to Performance mode and the audio issue was solved.
About Vsync. Even with it enabled, there is screen tearing anyway (at least for me).
Keep in mind that Singularity IS an OLD DX9 game with a lot of development issues.
I would like to see a proper remaster.
Don't expect to have solid 60 FPS all the time. The game is extremely GPU demanding, even with the video settings on Low.
