I deleted the files as recommended in another solution, still no luck. After changing proton versions a couple of times and pasting the command again (even though I checked it was fine to begin with) the game launched. The initial launch was extremely stuttery and ran at a very low FPS. The main menu was hard to use because of the stuttering. After launching a New Game, the issues dissapeared and it's perfectly smooth and stable.
