Had some occasional load issues after extended play periods. Generally not a problem with frequent quicksaves as a restart is all ok.
The game does not work properly when your steam library is on an NTFS drive (maybe for other games too). You need to move the compatdata directory.
cd <steam library>
mv compatdata/ ~/.steam/
ln -s ~/.steam/compatdata/ compatdata
Proton-5.9-GE-2-MF [https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases](Glorius Eggroll) GloriousEggroll
Using the default Proton I was unable to get the game to progress past the explosion in the tutorial, the cutscene fails to load and gets stuck in a loop. Using the glorious eggroll release helped here.
Its fine for me to jump in to but the performance problems and low graphics settings may be a turn off.
Proton-5.9-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Using the default Proton, the game is basically unplayable even on the lowest settings.
Using the glorious eggroll version of proton the game ran smoothly on "Low" graphics settings, definitely playable. Loading times are increased compared to windows. There is often a drop in frames when there are lots of vehicles on screen (multiplayer is particularly bad at the start of races)
This game has been one of the best experiences of gaming under Linux in a long time. Install -> Play. Perfect.
Arcade audio is missing - not a big deal at all.
Had no performance impacts running on 'High' settings. Didn't bother tweaking as I was happy enough with how it looked.
