Runs great via Proton 5.0-10 (other versions also OK I think). Corrupted saves was the only issue.
Saves get corrupted in a few places. Have to back track to an earlier save and re-play the section, or use cheats to skip a section.
The Linux native version is very broken with serious lighting and texture bugs. Unplayable.
Proton-6.18-GE-2
Only some sounds working with regular Proton. Working perfectly with Proton GE. No launch commands needed.
Out of the box the game would not launch at all. Brief flash of a black screen, then back to Steam. I changed my esync limits following this guide https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=53537. Then the game would load. Initially running with monitor refresh rate of 165 Hz made NPC speech go out of sync and frame rate appeared capped at 60. Following the advice here: https://help.bethesda.net/app/answers/detail/a_id/41680/~/why-are-my-fallout-4-graphics-and-actions-moving-too-fast%3F I set iPresentInterval in the two config files to 2. Then, changed monitor refresh to 120 Hz. Now runs perfectly at constant 120 FPS, 1440p, all highest settings.
In summary, 4 things needed to work perfectly:
- Increase esync limit
- Use Proton GE
- Set iPresentInterval to 2 in both config files
- Set desktop refresh rate to 120 Hz
