Played via wine before, since proton appeared was one of my first games installed using it. Works out of the box, have not seen single issue. Now with gtx1070ti get ~150(..220) fps, but performance was very good even before on gtx950.
Latest update of the game switched to Direct9ex which made the game not working (gets stuck at loading) ... and had no luck yet with making it working again.
install d3dcompiler to fix "can't create shader" issues, like: $ protontricks 269610 d3dcompiler_47
Worked well out of box. I did not noticed any issue. Although game didn't got me much interested so i went just through few areas.
crash whenever accessing game Saves menu (same as settings, likely once there is at least one save since i could make first save)

Switching Proton to older 4.* version seems as easy workaround for Save game / Settings menu crashing the game.
Tried with 4.11 as also 4.2 version, in both works well, crashing is gone, didn't notice any issue.
