I expected the performance to be much better because a hat in time (made in the same engine with similar gameplay) runs fine at max settings. I assume it is because the game is still in development, I had the same issue in windows on the same device.
Proton experimental is required, any other version official or not, crashes the game. This report is for the barneby demo specifically.
I expected the performance to be similar to a hat in time given they are in the same engine, both platformers, same art style, ect. A hat in time works just fine on max settings, but when it comes to the barneby demo, I had to lower the settings to have everything on high except for effects a d foliage which was on low. Everything on high except for shadows which is low works much better but ruins the graphical quality. The fantoccio demo works just fine on max settings though.
(PROTON EXPERIMENTAL SPECIFICALLY IS REQUIRED(caps to emphasize)) works very well and runs just like it does on windows for both demos but if you want mods for the fantoccio demo windows is your only option. Due to a lack of optimization because the game isn't released the barneby demo lags on default settings but overall I would recommend steamos for a steam deck user to play this game.
Audio gets stuck, repeats itself for a bit, and went out of sync causing barnaby to move way faster to catch up and sometimes making the level impossible
Most levels were fine but the barnaby chase sequence lagged signifigantly regardless of video settings.
I did not experience the dropped performance for the most part on steam deck
