Due to the way Borderlands 2 loads assets, pickups will initially appear rough and untextured. This isn't very glaring on SSD but on eMMC or microSD it is quite frequent.
If the Steam Deck is put into sleep mode, the game will disconnect from SHiFT servers and will lock you to the main menu until you close the game. The way to fix this is to select from the Main Menu 'Network Options' -> 'Network Mode' -> 'Offline'.
While there's some very minor issues with Borderlands 2 on Steam Deck, they are pretty inconsequential. These days, GE is no longer needed and the game runs perfectly fine under the recommended version of Proton.
Given that the game no longer has any sound or visual issues with Proton, it should be safe to play on Linux.
Natively, the game does not support controller button prompts. To fix this, there are community mods for Xbox 360 controller and DualShock 3 button prompts. This patch must be performed on Windows, and the modified file can be copied over to a Steam Deck/Linux installation.
Set TDP Limit to 8 watts.
If you are using a controller, the Button Prompts mods are a must. Beyond that, the game performs well and has no other issues that would require tinkering.
Any issues had with this port are related to the port itself. Played to 100% completion on Steam Deck with no issue.
Added Tab Key and 5 key to L4 and R4 respectively to get their functionality, which is not included in the controller layout.
Set TDP Limit to 3 watts.
The game runs flawlessly on Steam Deck with absolutely no changes whatsoever.
