WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command%
The initial area from game start up until you go through the tunnel collapse just before the train is very seriously heavy on vram. My Nvidia 1070 Founders Edition with 8GB maxes out and can barely manage a few fps unless I can manage to set the few options there are to as small and slow as it will go. Still bumps into the limit and lags like crazy, but is possible to get past. After that area, it all runs fine.
Was unable to run with regular or expermental proton when I last tried some months ago, YMMV. Not sure if it requires the command line option, but it's running well for me with it there so I haven't messed with it further.
With GE-Proton7-24, I have partially functioning video players. Was able to play youtube and twitch vods (to the extent my limited internet is capable of) with audiolink properly reacting to change avatar colors, but could not load and play twitch live streams.
Compared to 7-10, seems to be less audio stuttering issues than before when things get heavy.
Overall, given the fact this is a 10+ year old computer I'm on, VRChat runs very well so long as I keep things to sensible levels and don't join some world maxed out with players in very poor avatars. :P
