The audio during cutscenes did not work with latest version of Proton, even with the suggested launch options. However, the game works 100% perfectly out of the box with Proton GE, including audio during cutscenes, definitely platinum status.
Small graphical artifacting so far in some cutscenes, but you have to be looking out for them
Huge stuttering issues on your first game while shaders are compiled.
Even after that however there is still serious stutters - going from 144fps locked to 2.
Had significant lag and the two red error symbols in the top right - the broken chain etc. which is associated with this. Could have been that server, as this does happen very very rarely on windows - however for my first game in to have been one of them is unlikely.
ITS HERE. They have merged the EAC branch with APEX, a 40mb update and all of a sudden linux users can play.
This review comes after only one game, which as I have said has significant issues even on good hardware. However, no doubt this will improve with time, the biggest hurdle - anticheat, is now fixed.
The mass deletion of 100gb windows dual boots has begun!
Love the game, total nostalgia from my childhood and runs essentially perfectly through proton.
The steam version doesnt map controller very well, new controllers are out of the question. However my old 360 wired controller was able to be mapped to a playable configuration (although I need like one or two more buttons for it to be as ergonomic as I would like)
This takes 2 minutes on first install and is no big issue, and probably happens on windows to be honest.
I had one crash at the start of the game, maybe 5 minutes in, where i lost all data because no autosave feature to my knowledge. Concerned about this I started saving every 5 minutes or so just in case, but in the next 2.5 hours of play I havent had a crash.
One crash could just be an outlier I guess, but I can't know for sure.
Playing without "force specific compatibility tool" on steam, which i believe means its using proton 6.3-8 currently.
Typical gamer will not put up with such an extreme performance hit, this game is only going to be enjoyable on top of the line hardware.
Getting 25% of the performance that I get on windows all settings equal. A gold rating is VERY generous for this game. I get 80-100fps on high on windows, and I'm 19-25 on linux with no tweaks. This doesn't count as an OOTB experience to me, considering that it's unplayable framerates even on a totally acceptable GPU - 1070.
