Input:Controller Detection
As mentioned by others, for PS4 controller (and maybe others models) needs to change some configurations or the game won't start:
Switch to “gamepad” template on Steam: Steam -> Settings -> Controller -> Desktop Configuration -> Browse configs -> Templates -> Gamepad
Enble Steam Input: Under Elden Ring Properties -> Controller -> Enable Steam Input (under drop-down menu)
