Attempting to launch the game through Steam starts the process, apparently going through the steps of syncing the cloud save and launching it, as well as displaying the game's name in green in the library. However, the game itself doesn't launch, and Steam eventually gives up on trying to run it.

This happens with both the default compatibility tool, as well as attempting to force the use of the various other compatibility tools Steam has available.
