Videos will not play without Media Foundation codecs. Install script can be found here https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-installcab . This will actually stop you from progressing past the first area as you will have to watch a video on a monitor and the game will not advance if it does not play. Has worked perfectly after running this script however.
