I suspect it's the EA Launcher that pops up that don't work under proton.

I followed this guide

to get a different game to work. After that I just Installed iRacing from my steam, selected the compatibility mode to GE-Proton10-2 and then the game started without a hitch.
to get the GE-Proton packages, install ProtonUp-QT from the software manager in Linux Mint. Make sure you have started your Steam atleast ONE time before starting the ProtonUp-QT. Then you should be able to Add versions of GE-Proton packages.
