Did not start at all
I tried the "out of the box" install and then clicked the "Play". That did not work using Proton 5.0.9. I did not get any response... after a few seconds the button went from "Stop" back to "Play".
Then I basically tried everything people are recommending here. I used all versions of proton (4.11-13, 4.2-9, 3.16-9 and even the GloriousEggroll version).
I tried the 64-bit binaries. And I tried tweaking the launcher options to:
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
And all other variants I could find on the internet. Nothing worked. The best I could get was a black screen and then the application crashed.
I should note that I did not install GameSpy Comrade.
I had to use the 64 bit binaries from Crysis Warhead. Basically I installed Warhead and copied the 64 bit folder into Crysis' 32 bit folder, overwriting all files. I also disable Esync. This enabled me to launch the game and get to the opening video. After that I got a black screen.
To overcome the black screen issue, I had to hit the ~ key to open a command prompt (while still in black screen) and then I entered two commands:
con_restricted 0 map island
Then the game started and ran perfectly. These commands are needed only for new games. After you save it, they're no longer needed.
Just click Install and Play
No issues whatsoever. Just clicked, Install and Play. I was able to finish the game without any hiccups.
The game did not start
I received the error "Application Load Error 5:000006543"
The weird thing is that Quake II (the original version) runs perfectly
