%command% -NoStartupMovies -NoLauncher
Did not try native because I had Windows save files to transfer.
After install, game crashes on startup with Failed to create the D3D9 device
. Fix is to temporarily remove -NoLauncher
from the startup command and then pick a working resolution in the launcher.
Game takes a LONG time to process Vulkan shader on launch, but I saw no performance issue from skipping this.
Only tested briefly and didn't try multiplayer.
Slight lag at start of missions, does not happen under Windows
Occasionally locks PC up completely. I've not encountered this since switching to Glorious Eggroll but it was quite rare so might not be resolved.
Using Proton, game crashes on startup if system settings (e.g. screen resolution) are edited. Workaround is to delete My Games/EDF5/SAVE_DATA/[user]/SYSTEM
folder and then set resolution again each time the game is launched.
Switching to Glorious Eggroll resolves this.
It works as well as on Windows - there are crashes and disconnects, but an identical experience to Windows.
The issues I had with Proton might be uncommon, they're not common in other reports. But switching to Glorious Eggroll seems to have the game working perfectly. EDF!
Game does not use the full display for Full Screen or Borderless. Changing to another window mode then back in settings fixes this, but that needs repeated each time the game launches and each time you return to the main menu.
Runs very slowly in pre-mission menus. Actual game is OK. Switching to Glorious Eggroll improves this.
There's somewhat of a bug where the game takes a long time to fade in from a solid white screen. I have no reason to suspect this is a Linux compatibility issue, it's an indie title so might just be a bug.
Playable but video playback is broken
Video playback does not work and video is used throughout the game
The game is playable (and it's great!) but the game fails to play videos on Linux. The title screen shows a "test card" pattern and the game occasionally pauses and shows the same test card - I think there is supposed to be video playing here. Steam discussions say to use proton-ge-custom instead, I've not tried that yet. Posting this now to correct an earlier "it works perfectly" review.
